With the celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday behind us, we have an even clearer vision of the importance of the midterms for state legislatures. As we move into the final stretch before November’s elections, a small number of competitive districts will determine who shapes policies affecting:
voting rights -- public education --
reproductive freedom -- economic opportunity
Spotlight on Michigan
Both parties see Michigan as a critical battleground for control of state institutions and a path toward regaining control of Congress. This fall’s outcomes will shape state policy and Michigan’s national role in elections for years. After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, the Democratic‑led Senate passed a bill to protect voting rights, but the Republican‑controlled House refuses to act. Time to fix that in November!

Beyond Donating, How You Can Help
Postcarding is a volunteer activity in which people handwrite postcards to eligible voters, encouraging them to vote in upcoming elections. Volunteers receive free postcards and voter lists, in packets of 100 or more, and mail them on a designated October date. Aside from the cost of stamps, it’s a simple, low-cost way to make a difference. You can write them on your own or gather friends for a postcarding party!
The Pen Is Mightier Than the Sword
It's so easy - Sign up at Postcards | Progressive Turnout Project. A few handwritten words can help ensure more Michigan voters make their voices heard. Research shows that postcarding efforts can increase voter turnout by 1.3%. In close elections where every vote matters, that is significant.
