VA-A Test for the Midterms
Dear Game Changers Donors and Friends,
For many of us, the national news is dispiriting even if it’s being read by a pool, alongside a frosted pitcher of piña coladas. But as Desmond Tutu once advised, the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Bishop Tutu presumably wasn’t referring to Republicans when opining on elephant consumption, but the advice is relevant nonetheless. Although we can’t unseat the president in 2025 or alter the composition of the U.S. House or Senate, the Virginia state legislature presents itself as a manageable bite for our Game Changers Giving Circle.
The States Project, of which we are a part, has targeted 10 key districts where the balance is at a tipping point. The outcome could go either way, but the conditions are promising for a Democratic win in all 10. These 10 traditionally red districts began a slide to blue in the ’23 state elections when three of those seats flipped to D. And in the 2024 Presidential election, nine of these 10 districts went for Harris!
Of those 10 districts identified as critical, three of the Democratic candidates are men and seven are women. Three are defending their seats; seven seeking to flip them. To get to know Virginia’s promising candidates a bit better, check out the attachment.
These will be very competitive races with hairline margins. The States Project uses extensive research to maximize the impact of support, knowing that funding is most effective in the closest races where a small number of votes could change the outcome.
And the dollar-for-dollar match lasts until August 31 or until the match runs out. So if you donate soon, your money will not only be doubled; it will help the candidates make the most of their remaining time.
We can’t consume the whole elephant this year, but we can chew on its ears. If you haven’t already donated, it’s easy to do. Just go to our new GameChangers4Democracy website and click!
Thanks for your support. We have a tremendous opportunity in Virginia. Voting starts September 19.
Committed and undeterred,
